We had a frustrating experience with another plumbing company that simply didn’t care, so finding Ron was a breath of fresh air. He is truly skilled at what he does.. the toilet and fixture installation were done beautifully and with real attention to detail. What impressed us most was that he went above and beyond without us even asking. We were planning to purchase an additional item, but Ron just took care of it. That kind of skill combined with genuine care for his customers is so hard to find. We will absolutely be calling Ron again for any future plumbing needs!
Response from the owner:Thank you for your business. Sincerely Ron and Max

This is a review of Maxim Osadchyi Maxim Osadchyi P.Eng. Dr. Pipe Drain and Plumbing Services Division of Osmaks Inc. If I could give a zero stars. I would. I hired Dr. Pipe (Osmaks) in October 2023 to install two alcove-style bathtub, and tub trim, faucet and shower head in my two bathrooms. I told Maksim and Ron (his son) that after they were done, I had a tile installer booked to do the tile around the tub. During the job, they didn’t level/shim the tub, didn’t level/center the shower head line, ripped out the floor plank in front of one tub (but not the second one), and destroyed baseboards (see attached pictures). Generally, left my bathrooms a disaster. When my tile installer came to do the tile job, he notified me that the tubs were not level. I immediately contacted Dr. Pipe and Maksim gave me every excuse in the book (my floor was not straight, etc.). Although he offers “emergency 24-hour service”, he couldn’t be bothered to send someone to level my tub until Monday. Hence, my tile installer could not finish his job and I was left without the use of both my bathtubs for over a week. After work in my basement, I had water flooding. Not once, but twice. Destroyed my brand new vanity that Dr. Pipe installed. Disrupted my tenant. Still no resolution to the damaged vanity. Maxim Osadchyi also took $150 for the installation of the shower trim and I had to pause the project for some time. Texted him that I would let him know when he could come back to finish. No response. Then when I reached out to finish the trim or refund the $150, he refused to do either. Scamming me out of $150. I do not recommend this company due to their unethical behaviour.
Response from the owner:Dear Alexandra, Thank you for your review. On October 17 and 18, 2023, we installed and tested two bathtubs at your property. Two days later, you contacted us regarding concerns about one of the tubs. During that conversation, you used abusive language and slurs, which we do not tolerate. You also relayed concerns raised by your tile and drywall contractor, whom you later dismissed, regarding the tub allegedly being out of level. On October 23, 2023, I personally attended the site to inspect your concerns. My inspection confirmed that the bathtub had been installed level. The photographs from that visit show a properly leveled tub, while the surrounding drywall and wall surfaces were uneven and not level. You withheld $100 for the installation of the faucet trim in the second bathroom because you had terminated your tile and drywall contractor, and there was no confirmed timeline for the completion of the remaining work. Our last site visit and conversation occurred in October 2023, nearly three years ago. Since that time, we have not received any further complaints or reports of problems related to our work. As more than two years and eight months have passed since the project began, and the delays resulted from the site not being ready for completion on your end, we consider the agreement inactive and the project closed. Our records indicate that the remaining installation work could not proceed due to incomplete site preparations. Accordingly, we cannot accept responsibility for the resulting delays or provide any reimbursement. Sincerely, Maxim Osadchyi, P.Eng.

Basement floor drain was backing up, creating a very smelly lake on the floor. Without trying to upsell me, Ron explained the options honestly, clearly, and patiently and understood that we were strapped for cash. He snaked the line, which was the least costly fix, kept at it until he was satisfied with the drainage rate, and cleaned up everything. The price was as listed on the Dr. Pipe website, and far, far better than what I was able to get other, larger, better-known plumbing companies in Ottawa to quote me over the phone. It's also worth noting that these companies charge about $90 to actually come over and give an estimate. Dr. Pipe does not. If they come over and give an estimate and you decline to have the work done at that time, they're okay with that, and there's no charge. Overall, I was deeply impressed by Ron's competence and honesty, and his commitment when he put in extra time to make sure the job was done right. Many Ottawa plumbers are blatantly unethical and use predatory pricing on people who are in a jam. Dr. Pipe is the opposite. I can't praise them highly enough.
Response from the owner:Thank you Barry for your business. We are family owned and operated local business and always happy to help our customers with different options and services depending on their needs and budget. Thank you kindly for your honest review. Sincerely, Ron Osadchyi and Maxim Osadchyi

The roots from the tree in our front yard had found its way into our sewer pipe. After consultation on the available options, Dr. Pipe (Max and Ron) provided their expertise in solving this issue by inserting a liner in a very timely, efficient and very professional manner. They were friendly and consciencious personnel to work with.
Response from the owner:Hi Hans. Thank you for your business. It was our pleasure to help you with roots penetration in the drain. PVC reinforce liner will protect your drain line from roots and will work perfectly for years to come

I had a minor plumbing panic when the tip of my toilet cleaner bottle fell off and got stuck deep in the drain. I was worried about a major clog and called Dr. Pipe Drain and Plumbing. He was incredible— He talked me through exactly what to do over the phone and reassured me that the piece was small enough that it wouldn't damage my pipes. I truly appreciate his honesty and expertise instead of him just trying to sell me a service I didn't need. I’m very grateful for the help and will definitely call them again for any future emergencies!
Response from the owner:Sammy L, thank you for your review. We’re glad we could help you over the phone and give honest advice without an unnecessary service call. We appreciate your trust and look forward to helping again if you ever need us. Sincerely, Dr. Pipe.

Are both toilets clogged in your two-bathroom home?

No matter how many bathrooms you have, a plumbing system often requires more than toilet snaking or plunging a toilet, especially in Ottawa during the colder months when pipes can freeze.

Day or night, any time of year, our friendly, reliable, and quick plumbers help you avoid a plumbing emergency.

Toilet Clogged? Here Are Your Warning Signs

We all know we have a problem when the toilet backs up and overflows.  You may also have a problem if the toilet doesn’t empty completely, or partially drains, or leaks.  Hearing a hissing or trickling sound is a strong indicator that something is clogging the plumbing.

We recommend calling a reputable plumbing service when you notice these warning signs.

  • Strange gurgling sounds
  • The toilet doesn’t flush and continues backing up
  • No flushing, even after plunging a toilet

What Causes Clogged Drains?

Clogs generally don’t occur immediately, which is why we usually don’t notice them until the symptoms are obvious.  Our normal, everyday activities can send grease, hair, dirt, food waste, and other things into our plumbing system over time.  What we wash down the drain accumulates in the pipes and restricts water flow.

Toilets are especially vulnerable. We tend to think that toilets are robust enough to handle anything.  They are the favorite dumping ground of toddlers for various household items, like keys.  We tend to flush several items down the toilet that should be disposed in other ways.  Personal care tissues and baby wipes (even the ones advertised as flushable) tend to be the most common culprits.  These clogs are difficult to resolve with a plunger.  If you’re suffering with a clog, especially if you use such items, it’s best to call a licensed plumber like Dr. Pipe Drain and Plumbing Services.  We’ll perform a no-obligation inspection to identify the problem and come up with the best solution to correct it.

Unclogging a Blocked Toilet The Right Way

There are plenty of DIY remedies for unclogging a blocked toilet. Some homeowners try plunging a toilet in Ottawa or snaking a toilet, but is that the right way?

  • YOU CAN TRY PLUNGING THE TOILET, but that plunger may not be as handy as you think. Plunging a badly blocked toilet can make the clog worse because low manual pressure only pushes the clog further out of reach.
  • BAKING SODA & VINEGAR OR OTHER DRAIN CLEANERS may partially break down a clog, but studies show that baking soda and vinegar do not break down greasy clogs. The abrasiveness in baking soda can also damage your drain pipes over time, and Dr. Pipe Drain and Plumbing doesn’t recommend this mixture for DIY drain cleaning.
  • CALL A PLUMBER. We’re fully experienced in repairing a plumbing disaster, especially after a DIY attempt is made. Our best recommendation is to call a professional plumber and avoid a costly mistake!

What you should do when you have a drain backup in Ottawa is call Dr. Pipe Drain and Plumbing Services.  Our team of expert plumbers will schedule a mutually convenient time to perform an inspection and assess the problem. Then we’ll review the results of our findings, what our recommended solutions are, and what the next steps should be.  You’ll receive a quote that is fair and honest.  We won’t try to up-sell you with unnecessary add-ons, because our team is not paid by commission.  We work quickly and efficiently to restore your home and minimize disruptions to your life.

  • Clean and restored workspaces so that you and your family can resume living in your home.

Dr. Pipe always inspects your plumbing system before making the right recommendation.

Our plumbing service methods include an auger to unclog toilet drain pipe. A fully blocked toilet or drain also benefits from high-pressure tools like the hydro-jetting tools we use in addition to snaking a toilet.

We may even recommend a new toilet installation for older toilets that keep clogging.

Tips How to Prevent Clogged Toilet

These are just some ways that you can avoid clogged pipes of your toilet.

Do Not: Do Your Own Repairs

  • Doing your own repairs can save you some money, but it could also cause many problems down the road. If you are working with something that you do not understand, chances are that you will make the issue much worse rather than making it better. You can try clearing basic clogs yourself, but anything more complicated is going to require the professional service of a plumber. A skilled plumber can diagnose and fix your problem much faster than you are able to do yourself.

Do Not: Dump Non-Organic Materials Down The Drain

  • If you use your toilet as a waste receptacle, chances are that you are going to run into trouble. If you pour paint down the toilet for example, it could lead to a serious clog that you cannot get rid of yourself. If you are pouring chemicals, motor oil, paint thinner, and spackle down the pipes, it will pollute the local water supply and might destroy your pipes.

Do Not: Overfeed The Garbage Disposal

  • Some people make the mistake of assuming that their garbage disposal is a replacement for their garbage can. Some things are just not ‘garbage disposal friendly’. Some fibrous items such as cornhusks and cobs, celery, and artichokes are just not meant to be. You should never pour fats, oil, or grease down the drain. If you are going to run the garbage disposal, make sure that you allow for plenty of water and soap as well.

Do Not: Flush Things That You Should Not

  • You should not flush certain things down the toilet, even if they are flushable according to the label. Band-Aids, dental floss, cigarette butts, cotton swabs, cotton balls, condoms, and moist towelettes, these all find their way into the toilet when they really do not belong there. If you want to make sure that you avoid putting additional strain on your plumbing, do not flush these down the drain.

FAQs

1. What does professional clogged pipe repair involve?

Clogged pipe repair means finding and removing blockages in your drains or main sewer lines that slow down water flow. Dr. Pipe Drain and Plumbing uses tools like drain augers and high-pressure hydro jetting to clear away grease, hair, debris, roots, and other clogs so your plumbing works as it should.

2. What are the most common signs of clogged pipes?

Common signs of clogged pipes include slow-draining sinks or tubs, gurgling sounds from drains, foul odors from your plumbing, or water backing up into other fixtures. These problems often indicate a buildup in the pipes that requires a professional to fix.

3. Should I try to unclog my pipes myself before calling a plumber?

You can try simple DIY methods, such as plunging or using a basic drain snake, for small clogs near the surface. But deeper or more stubborn blockages usually require a plumber’s tools and experience to clear them safely. Using chemical drain cleaners too often can harm your pipes and make the problem worse.

4. Can Dr. Pipe repair all types of clogged pipes?

Yes. Dr. Pipe’s licensed plumbers clear clogs in sinks, toilets, bathtubs, shower drains, and main sewer lines. For severe or recurring toilet blockages, we may use high-pressure cleaning or recommend replacement if the fixture is worn or repeatedly failing.

5. How quickly should clogged pipe repairs be handled?

It’s best to fix clogged pipes right away. If you wait, the blockage can worsen, causing backups, water damage, and more expensive repairs. Calling a professional quickly helps protect your plumbing and avoid bigger problems.
