These guys are great.. I had a list of issues and annoyances, from water pressure to replacements/additions and they sorted it all out very quickly and with top quality. I never at any point got the impression they were taking advantage and now have them on speed dial for anything else I may need done. Highly recommended.. A+++

We had a frustrating experience with another plumbing company that simply didn’t care, so finding Ron was a breath of fresh air. He is truly skilled at what he does.. the toilet and fixture installation were done beautifully and with real attention to detail. What impressed us most was that he went above and beyond without us even asking. We were planning to purchase an additional item, but Ron just took care of it. That kind of skill combined with genuine care for his customers is so hard to find. We will absolutely be calling Ron again for any future plumbing needs!
Response from the owner:Thank you for your business. Sincerely Ron and Max

This is a review of Maxim Osadchyi Maxim Osadchyi P.Eng. Dr. Pipe Drain and Plumbing Services Division of Osmaks Inc. If I could give a zero stars. I would. I hired Dr. Pipe (Osmaks) in October 2023 to install two alcove-style bathtub, and tub trim, faucet and shower head in my two bathrooms. I told Maksim and Ron (his son) that after they were done, I had a tile installer booked to do the tile around the tub. During the job, they didn’t level/shim the tub, didn’t level/center the shower head line, ripped out the floor plank in front of one tub (but not the second one), and destroyed baseboards (see attached pictures). Generally, left my bathrooms a disaster. When my tile installer came to do the tile job, he notified me that the tubs were not level. I immediately contacted Dr. Pipe and Maksim gave me every excuse in the book (my floor was not straight, etc.). Although he offers “emergency 24-hour service”, he couldn’t be bothered to send someone to level my tub until Monday. Hence, my tile installer could not finish his job and I was left without the use of both my bathtubs for over a week. After work in my basement, I had water flooding. Not once, but twice. Destroyed my brand new vanity that Dr. Pipe installed. Disrupted my tenant. Still no resolution to the damaged vanity. Maxim Osadchyi also took $150 for the installation of the shower trim and I had to pause the project for some time. Texted him that I would let him know when he could come back to finish. No response. Then when I reached out to finish the trim or refund the $150, he refused to do either. Scamming me out of $150. I do not recommend this company due to their unethical behaviour.
Response from the owner:Dear Alexandra, Thank you for your review. On October 17 and 18, 2023, we installed and tested two bathtubs at your property. Two days later, you contacted us regarding concerns about one of the tubs. During that conversation, you used abusive language and slurs, which we do not tolerate. You also relayed concerns raised by your tile and drywall contractor, whom you later dismissed, regarding the tub allegedly being out of level. On October 23, 2023, I personally attended the site to inspect your concerns. My inspection confirmed that the bathtub had been installed level. The photographs from that visit show a properly leveled tub, while the surrounding drywall and wall surfaces were uneven and not level. You withheld $100 for the installation of the faucet trim in the second bathroom because you had terminated your tile and drywall contractor, and there was no confirmed timeline for the completion of the remaining work. Our last site visit and conversation occurred in October 2023, nearly three years ago. Since that time, we have not received any further complaints or reports of problems related to our work. As more than two years and eight months have passed since the project began, and the delays resulted from the site not being ready for completion on your end, we consider the agreement inactive and the project closed. Our records indicate that the remaining installation work could not proceed due to incomplete site preparations. Accordingly, we cannot accept responsibility for the resulting delays or provide any reimbursement. Sincerely, Maxim Osadchyi, P.Eng.

Basement floor drain was backing up, creating a very smelly lake on the floor. Without trying to upsell me, Ron explained the options honestly, clearly, and patiently and understood that we were strapped for cash. He snaked the line, which was the least costly fix, kept at it until he was satisfied with the drainage rate, and cleaned up everything. The price was as listed on the Dr. Pipe website, and far, far better than what I was able to get other, larger, better-known plumbing companies in Ottawa to quote me over the phone. It's also worth noting that these companies charge about $90 to actually come over and give an estimate. Dr. Pipe does not. If they come over and give an estimate and you decline to have the work done at that time, they're okay with that, and there's no charge. Overall, I was deeply impressed by Ron's competence and honesty, and his commitment when he put in extra time to make sure the job was done right. Many Ottawa plumbers are blatantly unethical and use predatory pricing on people who are in a jam. Dr. Pipe is the opposite. I can't praise them highly enough.
Response from the owner:Thank you Barry for your business. We are family owned and operated local business and always happy to help our customers with different options and services depending on their needs and budget. Thank you kindly for your honest review. Sincerely, Ron Osadchyi and Maxim Osadchyi

The roots from the tree in our front yard had found its way into our sewer pipe. After consultation on the available options, Dr. Pipe (Max and Ron) provided their expertise in solving this issue by inserting a liner in a very timely, efficient and very professional manner. They were friendly and consciencious personnel to work with.
Response from the owner:Hi Hans. Thank you for your business. It was our pleasure to help you with roots penetration in the drain. PVC reinforce liner will protect your drain line from roots and will work perfectly for years to come

I had a minor plumbing panic when the tip of my toilet cleaner bottle fell off and got stuck deep in the drain. I was worried about a major clog and called Dr. Pipe Drain and Plumbing. He was incredible— He talked me through exactly what to do over the phone and reassured me that the piece was small enough that it wouldn't damage my pipes. I truly appreciate his honesty and expertise instead of him just trying to sell me a service I didn't need. I’m very grateful for the help and will definitely call them again for any future emergencies!
Response from the owner:Sammy L, thank you for your review. We’re glad we could help you over the phone and give honest advice without an unnecessary service call. We appreciate your trust and look forward to helping again if you ever need us. Sincerely, Dr. Pipe.

Do you know what type of plumbing is installed in your home or business? If you haven’t heard of it, what is Poly B plumbing?

Polybutylene, or Poly B, was a common plumbing material in 1975, but not anymore. So, is Poly B plumbing bad?

The truth is that Poly B pipes in your home are more likely to leak or burst, and insurance companies may not cover the damage to homes with Poly.

How Much Does It Cost To Replace Poly B Plumbing?

A Poly B plumbing replacement cost can be far more affordable than fighting with your home insurance when an expensive claim gets denied.

Dr. Pipe Drain and Plumbing Ottawa offers licensed plumbers and prompt and reliable Poly B plumbing replacement services. Call us to protect your property by ensuring your plumbing is safe and up to date.

How To Tell If You Have Poly-B Plumbing?

Feel free to call us for a polybutylene pipe inspection. If your pipes are grey plastic, it’s a sign that you have poly b plumbing.

How much does it cost to replace poly b plumbing? The cost depends on its length and location, but poly b plumbing fails more than other types of piping, and the wisest decision is to replace polybutylene pipes whenever possible.

How Long Does Poly B Plumbing Last Before Risks Increase?

We’ll answer that question by telling you that poly b plumbing insurance isn’t commonly offered in Canada, so the cost to replace poly b plumbing is far better than risking a serious claim that won’t be covered.

For peace of mind, contact a replacement service to determine whether your home contains polybutylene pipes.

Polybutylene Pipe Inspection Process

Before discussing polybutylene replacement, our licensed, expert plumbers carefully examine your plumbing to identify if polybutylene pipes exist.

We guide you through the entire process of replacing poly B pipes. Your options include copper, PEX, and PVC. We recommend options based on your specific needs and budget, and you choose what’s best for you.

Final Cost to Replace Poly B Plumbing After Inspection

Dr. Pipe Drain and Plumbing has the experience and expertise to complete your Poly B replacement job promptly and efficiently.

We treat your property with respect and return it to its original condition. If your polybutylene replacement is easy to install, the final cost may be lower.

The final cost is affected by hours of labour, property size, the accessibility of the piping system, the number of bathrooms, materials used, and the amount of drywall removed.

Estimates to Remove Polybutylene Poly B Plumbing

The costs of replacing Poly B plumbing range from $3,000 to $25,000. Since Poly B plumbing insurance isn’t available, Poly B plumbing replacement is an investment against costlier damages from burst pipes, and the peace of mind is priceless!

Options for Replacing Poly B Plumbing in Ottawa and Area

Dr. Pipe Ottawa offers expert services, and its highly trained professionals are ready to replace your old Poly B pipe system. We proudly serve the entire Ottawa area, including Barrhaven, Nepean, Kanata, Orleans, Carlington, Old Ottawa South, Vanier, Gloucester, and Embrun.

We recommend copper and PEX plumbing materials to replace polybutylene pipes. Here are the advantages and things to consider:

  1. Copper
  • Durable, long-lasting, and easy-to-install copper is a superior option for replacing Poly B pipes.
  • Copper plumbing materials can withstand pressures up to 1000 psi and have an average lifespan of 50-70 years. In Ottawa, when conditions get harsh, copper’s resistance to freezing makes it particularly suitable, and it’s also considered fireproof.
  • Additionally, copper does not leach into the water supply, ensuring your water remains uncontaminated. At the end of its life, copper is also fully recyclable. Copper costs more and requires soldering, which adds to the labour costs.
  1. PEX

Modern and reliable, PEX is a plastic plumbing material that is a huge improvement over Poly B plumbing.

This practical plumbing material has been available since the 1980s, and it’s durable and resistant to Ottawa’s colder temperatures.

PEX is even easier to install than copper, making it cost-effective for property owners on a budget. It is long-lasting, doesn’t rust or suffer from limescale build-up, and PEX piping has quality joints that minimize the risk of leaks.

Because PEX is plastic, it’s more sensitive to light and heat exposure, and we can’t recommend PEX for exposed plumbing outside.

Dr. Pipe Drain and Plumbing in Ottawa is here for you when you need us the most, including our 24/7 emergency service.

We expertly handle all your re-piping needs and a range of other plumbing services, including drain cleaning, sewer backup repair, and fixing leaky pipes.

Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late!

If you own a property with polybutylene pipes, please consider inspection and replacement of polybutylene pipes to avoid expensive, uninsurable damages and ensure your peace of mind.

You can depend on Dr. Pipe Plumbing’s skilled professionals for quality Poly B replacement services in Ottawa.

Frequently Asked Questions About Poly B Plumbing

When you know the risks of Poly B plumbing and that home insurance generally doesn’t cover it, you can proactively move to replace polybutylene pipes and boost your property value.

1. How Long Does Poly B Plumbing Last?

Initially, Poly B plumbing was supposed to last up to 30 years.

However, serious plumbing problems and water damage occurred so much that the average lifespan was cut to 15 years from when the piping system was installed.

In Ottawa, the high chlorine levels in municipal water can accelerate the degradation of Poly B pipes even further.

2. Why Isn’t Poly B Plumbing Covered by Insurance?

Poly B plumbing has a proven history of issues and problems. After the National Plumbing Code of Canada removed this plumbing material, it became harder to get insurance or even secure financing for a home with poly.

If you find any home insurance for poly, it’s often too minimal to be worth the premiums paid.

3. Should You Buy a House with Poly B Plumbing?

When you know a home has Poly B plumbing, consider asking the seller to pay for a polybutylene replacement in your conditional offer.

If the seller refuses, you may not secure financing or home insurance. In that case, negotiating a much lower purchase price is in your best interest, so you can pay to replace the poly b pipes.

4. What Other Types of Piping Are Available?

We recommend PEX as a total replacement for poly b plumbing systems.

Still, replacing a damaged Poly B pipe with PEX is not a quick fix because there can be compatibility issues, and you probably won’t be covered for future plumbing problems unless your plumbing system is completely overhauled.
