Submersible sump pump

What’s the difference between sump pump and submersible sump pump?

As technology is evolving, everything is progressing much faster and easier. There are many things technology has made easier for us and a sump pump Ottawa is just one of those great examples that has made life much easier. There are a lot of sump pump models on the market today. Out of these numerous options there are these two main types of sump pumps to choose from during your sump pump installation. These include the submersible and pedestal sump pumps.

The Submersible Pump

Like the name suggests a submersible pump is well engineered and manufactured to be efficiently submerged in water. Whereas if we talk about the pedestal pump, it sits in the sump pit. But the motor is not machined to get wet so it always resides outside the pit.

People often suggest that the submersible sump pump Ottawa is placed on the bottom of the pit, it is more stable than the pedestal pump.  When it comes to how the pedestal pump works, the pump is generally placed on the bottom of the pit but the motor rests on the outside of the pit.

As the motor on the submersible is in the pit, thus it becomes quieter which is not similar in the case of the pedestal pump.  However, it is more expensive in pricing and if the pump fails to work it becomes much harder to replace or repair as it is stored deep inside the pit. The submersible pump always deals with greater volumes of water and is built to handle solids or particles.

Now if we talk about the benefits of having pedestal pump is that it has a longer lifespan than the submersible pump. These last 2 to 5 times longer and are often more affordable than the submersible pump. The design of the pedestal pump has a hose or pipe that reaches all the way into the pit bottom which sucks up anything in its surroundings to avoid the clogging in the pump.

There is a pedestal float switch maintenance which resides on the outside of the pit to make it easier to fix and maintain. However, this may be a safety risk for children and pets. There are certain pros and cons to each type of pump you deal with. Your needs and your requirements decide the type of pump that you require.
