Step #1 – Measures for fixing your copper pipe leak

If you are going to fix your copper pipe leak with repair clamps, you should always make sure that you measure first. You need to know the diameter of the pipe before you can make any leeway.

Step #2 – Turn The Water Off

You will need to turn the water main off before you can secure the clamp. If you try to place it over a running leak, the clamp will not fit properly.

Step #3 – Clean The Pipe

If there is a dirt on the pipe surface, your repair clamp cannot have a firm grip. That is why you need to clean the pipe before you can create a proper seal. It should be free of any type of buildup and dust, but it does not necessarily have to sparkle. You do not want to damage the pipe, so avoid getting too tough.

Step #4 – Attach The Repair Clamp

You want the rubber on top to center with the pinhole, and you will find that there is a flexible metal pad on the inside of the clamp. Place the device in the desired area and use the screws to tighten. It needs to be tight enough to stop the leak, but not too tight to where it could damage your pipe.

Step #5 – Turn the water back on

Turn the water back on if you believe the clamp is tight enough. It is a good idea to stay nearby to make sure that the clamp does not need any further tightening. If you have succeeded, the repair is complete. If you notice that there are still some leaks, it might be a good idea to tighten the clamps just a bit more to stop your copper pipe leak.

Once again, we had a great experience with Dr. Pipe (Osmaks) and would not hesitate to use this firm again for future plumbing needs. This time, we hired them to replace our kitchen faucet and our bathroom faucet and drain. We also asked them to provide a solution for our broken outdoor garden hose tap. The kitchen faucet replacement was assigned to Ron Osadchyi. The old kitchen faucet was a bit stubborn, but Ron managed to get it off and got the new one installed. The faucet/drain replacement for the pedestal sink in the bathroom proved to be a more challenging two-man job, but Ron and Maxim rose to the challenge. After sizing up the situation with our garden hose tap, they recommended putting a new line through from the basement to the exterior wall at a more convient location, and they offered a very reasonable estimate. We didn't have to wait long at all, as they managed to fit in the work later that same day. Ron took the time to explain what they had done and the proper way to close and drain the new line at the end of the season to prevent freezing and bursting. If we had to sum up our experience, we would say that Dr. Pipe was responsive, professional and reasonably priced. Glad to have a plumbing firm we can trust here in Ottawa!

I had to have my water supply line to my house replaced as it was leaking. I called a number of companies and they said they would have to dig everything up with a backhoe to replace the water line. This included ripping up the interlock and also shoring up the porch. Responsibility for restoring the interlock would be on me at my expense. I called Dr.Pipe, who advertises trench-less water line replacement, where they only dig at the water shutoff valve and in the basement. They then push the new pipe through, and provided they do not hit a large rock, replacement is done with a minimum of disruption. Dr Pipe successfully replaced my water line in less than a day and cleaned everything up. Not only did I not have to deal with and pay for the interlock restoration, the price for the work was about 60% of what the backhoe people wanted. I am extremely happy with the service. Max and his crew we friendly and professional. Highly recommended.
