Now that spring is here, pool opening season is here as well. Many homes throughout Ottawa are going to call Ottawa pool services to make sure that they are able to wake up their backyard pool in the spring. There are a number of different issues that we commonly see during the spring opening that plague many different Ottawa homeowners.
Problem #1 – Water Leaks
The above ground water leak is the most common issue that people call about. The issue might come from the pipe from the top of the pump or the shaft seal. If you have a pool filter, it can leak on the air bleeder, clamp band, or drain plug. There are a number of different places in your pool that could cause a leak. It is always a good idea to look at the different pumps and seals and see where the issue might be.
Problem #2 –Air Leaks
You may have a problem with air leaks when you have a pump that draws in air, fills up the filter tank, and might even lead to bubbles being discharged into your pool. The pump is always going to be the cause of the air leak. The usual suspect here is the pump lid. You want to make sure that it is tight and the O-ring is both clean and lubed.
Problem #3 – Pool Algae
A solid safety cover is going to prevent algae in your pool, but if you have not already done that – it is understandable that you want to rely on the professional help of Ottawa pool services. There are five steps in the process of getting rid of algae in your pool once you have them:
- Clean the entire pool
- Balance the chemistry of the pool
- Shock your pool
- Brush your pool
- Remove dead algae and shock dust by vacuuming.
Problem #4 – Murky Pool Water
There is often murky water in a number of pools. The reason might be that your pool filter is simply unable to complete the job it was intended to do. If you notice that you continue to have issues with murky pool water, do the following:
- Clean the pool, skim, vacuum, and brush
- Make sure that you test and balance the water every day
- Run your filter as much as you can
- When the gauge rises 7-9 psi, that is when you backwash – only then
- Use additional chemicals to help
