Unclogging the Sink Basics
Many minor clogs only require the use of a plunger to clear the clogs from the pipes. When unclogging a sink with the plunger, first fill the sink up half way with water. Then take up the plunger and place it over the drain hole in the bottom of the sink. Using a bit of vigor, force the plunger up and down a few times. Repeat the up and down movement before you pull off the plunger away from the drain very quickly. In the event you are plunging a sink with a double bowl, you will need to stop up one open drain in order to get the movement of the plunged water toward the clog in the drain.
Take a wet rag and plug up one drain in one of the sinks, particularly the one that serves as the overflow hole and that is not positioned directly over the water pipe underneath the sink. In plugging off the overflow hole, you end up redirecting the pressure so that the pressurized water moves toward the clog in the pipe.
